Band of Horses Song Featured in Charleston International Film Festival Documentary "Mundaka" Producer/Director Also Filmed Rock Group's Next Music Video    (April 30, 2008)
Charleston, SC, April 30, 2008.
When independent film and video producer/director Jarrod Tallman was looking for the quintessential song to close his surf documentary "Mundaka," he had only to look as far as beloved local rock group Band of Horses. The third track on their 2006 album "Everything All The Time" was the ideal choice.

"Mundaka"is a 46-minute documentary film that recounts the transformation of a thousand-year-old Basque fishing village after surfing is introduced in the early 1970s. It describes how the residents have coped with the influx of visitors to their sleepy town from the beginning until now, with Mundaka serving as host to the prestigious Billabong Pro Mundaka event on the ASP Men's World Surfing Tour. It is also a surfer's homage to the legendary tubes that break at the mouth of the Guernika River.

"Bringing 'Mundaka' to life was a labor of love as it combined my passions of surfing, music and filmmaking," explained Tallman, a producer/director of commercials, action sports videos and documentary films for the past 10 years. "I felt a great responsibility to share the town of Mundaka's story with warmth, compassion and accuracy, which made it even more critical to choose the most appropriate song for the movie's climax."

"As a Band of Horses fan for years, I was thrilled that the group not only permitted me to include their song, but embraced the project as fervently and respectfully as I did," added Tallman. "This has truly been a great partnership, and we hope that the Charleston International Film Festival community enjoys the movie as much as we took pride in creating it. "

That their relationship is close is evinced by the fact that Band of Horses tagged Tallman to direct and produce their next music video,"No One's Gonna Love You," which is slated for release later this month. The documentary-style video with a cinema verité look, shot in Super 8, shows the guys having fun, playing music on the road, and just being themselves at home.

And for Band of Horses, Charleston is home. Band members Ben Bridwell (lead singer), Creighton Barrett (drummer) and Rob Hampton (guitar) all hail from the area, and jam with Ryan Monroe (keyboards), Tyler Ramsey (guitar) and Bill Reynolds (bass) as Band of Horses. When they're not playing gigs at The Village Tavern or The Music Farm, touring the United States, or on an International Tour, they're catching waves at Folly Beach.

Presented by Billabong, "Mundaka" was first introduced at the 2007 Billabong Pro Mundaka event in October 2007. The documentary film was directed and produced by Tallman, who also co-wrote the script with David Malcolm. The original score is by Michael Sterling Eaton.

"Mundaka" will be shown on Friday, May 2 at 9:00 p.m. at the Terrace Theater as part of the Charleston International Film Festival.

Irish Movies Big Hits at Home     (April 30, 2008)
Dublin, Ireland, April 30, 2008.
The Irish Film Industry is still big news both home and abroad, with "Once" winning the Oscar, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson teaming up "In Bruges" and young Irish hopefuls Saoirse Ronan and Sarah Bolger taking on the movie world. It's no wonder Screenclick.com, Ireland's leading online DVD rental service, is reporting increased demands in Irish films.

Frank O'Grady from Screenclick states home grown movies have increased dramatically in popularity recently. "If you go to our website and look up even some of the lesser known Irish movies like "Adam and Paul" or "Goldfish Memory" you will see lots of positive members' reviews, more than some of the big budget mainstream movies. When "Garage" was released on DVD we initially under estimated demand and had to reorder. We now have more copies of "Garage" then the last Harry Potter release. Currently three times more people have "Garage" on their rental queues then the latest Will Smith blockbuster "I am Legend". It's fantastic to see Ireland do so well in such a turbulent business. We have world class players in the industry with film icons like Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan, Gabriel Byrne, Peter O'Toole, Liam Neeson and it's great to see new and up coming talent like Saoirse Ronan." Screenclick.com, with over 70,000 registered users, claim 70% of their members have at least one Irish movie on their rental queue. "We work very closely with the Irish Film and Television Network to continue to promote Irish films, but to be honest it's not that difficult as the quality is there and the proof is in our members "reviews".

First Team Music/ M4L Media Group Release Documentary on Indie Hip Hop Icon    (March 25, 2008)
Atlanta, GA, April 29, 2008.
Do It!: A Documentary is a real life account filmed over the course of six entertaining months, following independent hip hop icon Quanstar through his day to day journey toward his ultimate goal of achievement for himself not only as a performer and an artist, but as a father and a man. It takes on a very personal effect, filmed intimately and independently not only by the film's co-producer but, at times, by Quanstar himself.

He welcomes his audience into his grueling everyday experience as he balances the many aspects that come with the career path he has chosen. He single handedly runs his record label out of a tiny bedroom in his father's house, juggles two part-time jobs, shares joint custody of his toddler son - even as it means propping the boy on his shoulder as he performs at a local Summer benefit - and constantly works to raise funds by sponsorships and promotions in order to fund and drive his music career. You'll even follow him on his annual nationwide tour - "The Bring You're 'A' Game Tour" - during which just about everything that can go wrong goes wrong, and he is forced to adapt, adjust, and reinvent as he goes. Which he does, with incredible charisma and determination.

He's a man who goes against the grain and is driven by nothing else than his own inner desire to be the best he can be in every way imaginable. He is supported by a strong cast of family and friends who all play roles in the film, including candid commentary by a select few closest to him. His relationship with his son shines throughout as an elemental and forceful factor in all he does. It becomes evident that while for many simply having a child in and of itself becomes the ultimate obstacle in pursuing their dreams, in Quanstar's case, it is the ultimate driving force. He will stop at nothing to prove to his son that dreams should never be given up, roadblocks should never mean the end, and goals should always be achieved no matter what it takes.

"Do It" is the best kind of film; spoken from the heart. Quanstar speaks to the camera as if you are right in front of him and bears his innermost thoughts in order to bring to light the true magnitude of what it means to be an independent artist in the thick of everything else his life entails. The film has appeal, not only because of its dynamic star, but because of the common thread in all of us that it speaks to. The dream we all search for, the obstacles we all face, and the inner motivation we all have somewhere inside of us to be not only where, but who, we want to be.

The film's DVD is paired with a 12 song soundtrack featuring Quanstar and Atlanta based producer extra ordinaire, GM, with guest tracks done by Cypher Linguistics of Dropbombz.com and Lena Moon. Stand out songs like In The City, Drunkenman's Prayer featuring jazz diva Chanel Mosley, and Back In The Day set the soundtracks tone to ensure listeners the finest ear candy available.

The "Do It!: A Documentary" deluxe set can be currently purchased at Lulu.com, Quanstar's myspace (www.myspace.com/quanstar) page, and many other online and mom and pop retailers. Also, the movie is available as downloads in mpeg 4 and windows media files.

Runtime: 85 Minutes

Dark Reel Cast Greets Fango Fans     (March 25, 2008)
Tarzana, CA, April 24, 2008.
Is it Halloween in April? No, it's just Fangoria's Weekend of Horror at the L.A. Convention Center this weekend. The gorno-horror picture "Dark Reel"will have a booth there. So this is your opportunity to meet the talent and get an autograph or photo op.

Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors is an annual event that boasts eerie exhibitors, vicious vendors, creepy costumes and more. Get your fill of gore and guts and check out Dark Reel at Booth 503.

"Dark Reel" is a film within in film and on top of that, the pre-production is a story in itself. Take one privileged young man (Director, Josh Eisenstadt) from a well heeled suburb with dreams of directing. Add an ex-gang banger (Producer, David Forline) equipped with nothing more than bravado and chutzpah. Mix well and several months later "out pops a movie" and a really good one at that.

This retro-style story combines horror, romance, a little humor, and surprise - a well-written plot and a recognizable cast. It's the story about the tragic death of a 50s starlet "Scarlett May" (Alexandra Holden). Fast forward to modern day, when real life Scream Queen, Tiffany Shepis, plays fictional Spotlight National Films Scream Queen, "Cassie Blue." Mix in a horror movie fan "Adam Waltz" (Edward Furlong) with a walk-on role and several deaths and dismemberments later, he's the prime suspect. But is he the "reel" killer?

This film also stars a bevy of beauties in addition to Shepis: Mercedes McNab, Rena Riffel Kate Orsini "who will be on site, as well as Jasmine Worth, Frankie Sin, Nicole Malgarini, and Brooke Lyons. The actors that round out this superb cast and will be on hand include Lance Henriksen, and Tony Todd."

So be the first to get movie memorabilia and rub elbows with the stars before the upcoming US theatrical release.

"Dark Reel" was just signed by Spotlight Pictures to represent foreign distribution and will be at Cannes.
