Overview:
1894 - Billboard magazine was founded and soon began carrying news of outdoor amusements such as circuses, carnivals, amusement parks, fairs, vaudeville, etc.
Jan. 4, 1936 - Billboard magazine published its first music Hit Parade Chart.
July 20, 1940 - Billboard magazine published the first Music Popularity Chart.
June 1948 - Columbia launched the vinyl 12-inch 33-1/3 rpm album.
March 31, 1949 - RCA Victor launched the vinyl 7-inch 45 rpm single.
Aug. 4, 1958 - Billboard magazine published the first 'Hot 100' Chart. (record sales and airplay)
