Another fantastic cover of "House of the Rising Sun" from 1974 with Brian Johnson, who would become the vocalist of AC/DC with his voice totally changing.

.. that would be a good addition as I need to clean up the list I have with the "dead" links .... Take care

..you might note or as a piece of trivia ... the Animals either by mistake or intentional change the lyrics from "girl" to "boy" which does significantly change the meaning and storyline of the song ....

Also it would be hard to imagine that there isn`t a rock band from the 60`s, 70`s etc that has never played their own version of this tune ...

gminer, great timeline but you totally left out Link Wray.
The guy basically brought a whole new sound to rock guitar, yet he hardly gets a mention anywhere. He's one of those artists that have been "screwed by history"...if you will.

Rumble is a landmark.

You completely missed the point of the thread. This wasn't a timeline for all of rock guitar, but a timeline for a specific song, the first the timeline which lead to Whole Lotta Love and the second the timeline of House Of The Rising Sun.

And what is the theme of this new timeline? Gminer's one had "House of the Rising Sun" and its evolution, what is this one?

... for the UK portion, a good starting point could be Big Jim Sullivan introducing the 12 string to the UK in 1959 .... but prior to that any reference from Leadbelly, Pete Seeger or Blind Willy in the US would be a few good examples as the 12 string acoustic evolves to the electrified to the electric Rickenbacker ....Take care

No, no. It all started with the Beatles.
