Like someone suggested in the old forum, it'd be cool to have a short descriptive text for each guitarist on the greatest rock guitarists list, so I'm thinking that people could post their suggestions in this thread, and the best ones will be used for the list. Try and keep the text short and sweet, check out the all-genre list to see how it's done there.

Okay, here is a sort of rough draft

Jimi Hendrix is the undoubtedly the greatest guitarist of all time. In 1967, Hendrix shook the guitar and entire music scene with the release of his debut album Are You Experienced?. Although not the most technically gifted guitarist, Hendrix's emotion, flare, and presence made him an instant legend. Not only did he have the ability to be original, but he could take songs like "All Along The Watchtower" (a song by Bob Dylan) and make it his own. Every guitarist that played during and after Hendrix's time has been either directly or indirectly influenced by him.
Even though Hendrix died in 1970 at the age of 27, his impact on guitar-playing can never be understated. A certain number one.

Good first draft, thanks for contributing. Can't promise it'll be used, though, since Hendrix is such a huge name, and a lot of people are capable of writing good bios about the guy.

I would suggest finding guitarists who are a bit more obscure, guitarist you may be into that many others aren't as familiar with.

I was thinking about doing Kurt Cobain. Many people feel that he is not that great, but I am a big fan of his work.

That'd be cool, give it a shot. I'll be doing the Malmsteen and Shawn Lane bios for sure, and probably most of the shred-related ones. Gonna ask ClashWho if he'd like to write a Townshend bio.

Cobain might be known for his songwriting prowess, but he is worthy of a spot on this list. The opening riff in "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and the entire performance kick-started grunge. Even though Cobain's output of work isn't very high, he is certainly one of the most influential grunge guitar players of all time.
Cobain committed suicide in 1994 at the age of 27. However, he will never be forgotten.

I feel that the guitarists in the lower parts of the list should get a shorter bio. You know, just to save space.

I know you said to focus on the more obscure, but I love Jimi too much not to give it a shot.

David Gilmour

While not an original member of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour was arguably the the most vital component of their distinctive sound. While most of his peers were pushing for a faster and louder style of playing, Gilmour's subtly and phrasing set him apart. A bluesman at heart, he took the touch and feel of BB King and added to it his own style of slow bends, sustain, and tone, driving "the Floyd" to an atmospheric and emotive sound.

Essential listening: Time, Dogs, Comfortably Numb.
