not campaigning for it to be on the list, but thought i'd post this lovely duke composition here... it's the first piece from "the queen's suite"... performed by tommy flanagan's trio
(with very beautiful drawings by one of my new favorite artists, eugene martin)

just beautiful, thanks for sharing..........I've often thought this list needed to be expanded. Time permiting I'll see what I can do. Any titles you'd like to share would be welcome as always. Our perspectives have always been opposite as pertains to jazz but I'm always interested in the choices you champion.

I think that considering Louis Armstrong's importance as a jazz instrumentalist, he should have at least 2 more on the list. I agree with "West End Blues" being the top choice. I'd say "Potato Head Blues" is his next most widely esteemed piece, followed by "Weather Bird".

While I love this tune with it's elements of world music I think Weather Report is represented well with the choices on the list but thanks I'll keep it considered. Funny you mentioned it though as I play Blackthorn Rose off Mysterious Traveller all the time and though 'Rose' is a favorite of mine it wouldn't make this list, just love the vibe it creates.
