Been doing re-runs through the FF games recently. Man, VII is the best of the bunch and it isn't even close. The atmosphere is simply unmatched. Midgar is the best locale to ever grace the FF series. The Forgotten City, The Whirlwind Maze, Mt. Nibel, Mt.Corel... all around out the best FF world ever.

Sad to say I have never played that game all the way through. I was really put off by the graphics and sound quality originally, and its been along time since I've even had a chance to play it again.

Been playing FF4 a lot which was actually my first exposure to RPGs when I was a kid, though I've never actually "played" the game (I just watched my friends play it). Wasn't digging it at first, it hasn't aged very well, and it's fucking annoying how I leveled my Dark Knight to 30 (way beyond expectation) only to be changed to Paladin level 1. I knew you got changed at some point in the game, but I thought you'd be able to keep your level, at least. So basically I could've ignored him the entire game and it wouldn't make one damn difference. The story, almost point for point is the same as Secret Of Mana (the game I was playing before this), or more accurately Secret of Mana is point for point the same story as FF4. But seriously, the villains have the same exact plan: Powerful wizard who strikes a deal with the underworld controls emperor of powerful kingdom and uses their military to steal elemental crystals (FF4) or seeds (SOM) from various locales.

But for all my complaints, I'm still glued to it.

Mana is better than FF IV though. And while the villians have the same plan I wouldn't say they have point for point the same story, absolutely not, the protagonists are pretty different and the setting is distinct as well.

I'm admittingly more of an action RPG fan than traditional RPGs.

IV is still a great game, it's just outclassed by other SNES RPGs.

Game looks fucking awful and being Curiosity's favorite game is not a good sign.

Just because a series has a fuck up every now and then doesn't mean it's doomed to eternal failure, Jesus Christ people.
