Why?
For a long time I wondered if he would fit in a list of pop singers, but I think he has strong pop leaning.

Prince and MJ two of my favourite singers period, George Michael and Collins responsible for a few songs that I love, and then Elton to round if off (don't really know his material too well.)

Depends... Prince, Bolton, Tom Jones, Michael Jackson and Hucknall have some of my favourite singing voices, whereas Prince, Jackson, Elton, Morten Harket and George Michael have the best music out of these.

Michael Jackson, Prince. Everybody else on that list is unnecessarily alive.

I only really like Elton John and Michael Jackson and to a lesser extent Prince. Phil Collins is alright. The rest are really boring.

1. MJ/Elton John/Prince: 13 votes
4. Tom Jones: 9 votes
5. George Michael: 5 votes

Prince being tied with Elton and MJ surprised me. But in a positive way, I thought the people did not like much of his singing style.

well you gave us 5 choices and all but three of them are pretty forgettable. even if Elton is everyone's third choice, he's gonna be tied cause the competition is awful.

MJ > Prince >> Elton >>> George Michael > Phil Collins/Seal >>>>>> Stewart >> the others i've heard >>> Bolton

Bolton can get fucked. and that's coming from someone who genuinely loves a lot of popular music. there is a pretty solid formula for good mainstream music: take the basic fundamentals of pop songwriting, overproduce the shit out of it, inject whatever natural charisma the performer has (usually a lot) and add just a touch of individuality for flavor. and most of the time, it works. it doesn't often produce greatness, but it often produces enjoyable music. but that easy listening bullshit just doesn't have it. the songwriting is almost always stagnant, the performers are usually boring and Michael Bolton is the poster-child of the mundane.

couple of these guys i don't know without looking them up: Harket, Hayes, Hucknall

edit: so i see Harket is from A-ha (don't really give a shit), Hayes from Savage Garden (i like the couple songs i've heard), and Hucknall from Simply Red (never listened to them).
