100 Greatest Horror Films

I never thought of watching them separately and I could not recommend anyone to do that... It's a long movie and it's quite slow, but imo every second is worth it. Some of the most meticulously framed shots are right there in front of you when watching it. So expect to be artistically stimulated rather than having your hunger for trashy cult cinema being stilled :)

Did you get the Masters of Cinema version? That's the one I have and it's as good a copy of this film as you're gonna find on Region 2 DVD.

Brazilian horror series by Jose Mojica Marins. Got him into big trouble with the Catholic Church and state censors due its hardcore atheism/nihilism, and also featured some pretty outrageous violence for the time.

The proper trilogy is:

At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1963)
This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse (1967)
Embodiment of Evil (2008)

But there are a ton of spinoffs and unofficial entries. At Midnight is the strongest overall and certainly the most original, while This Night is a remake disguised as a sequel à la Evil Dead II, containing one of the most spectacular sequences in any horror film, ever. Both are must-see. The third one is basically torture porn.

I've had At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul in my to-watch list for almost a year now. Maybe I should get to that soon. Fuck torture porn, though...

I know Pet Semetary is kind of cheesy and all, but I cant help but love it.

I see you say "cheesy" as a criticism to horror quite a bit, Neg and I have to say I don't really get it.

Horror is a genre which in its roots is a high camp artform. Most horror films are camp, kitschy or "cheesy".

Cheesy, camp and kitsch are all just artistic styles and should never be used as adjectives for criticism (of course a film can be cheesy in a bad way, but films can also be surreal in a bad way too, doesn't mean surreal should be used as an outright critical word, just a style).
