edder: Why "Out of Time" instead of any other Blur song that isn't there? I can think of several singles of these that charted higher, sold more, were more influential and were more acclaimed. Namely "Popscene" (often considered one of the first real "Britpop" singles) and "Beetlebum".

Piper, I like the way how you do the questions and is a pleasure to answer.

I am human being and make mistakes like everyone, I made the list very quickly, currently in a week, and that is why I do not consider it perfect. In fact that detail escaped to me, but I think that's why I upload it to the forum in oreder that other people review it and tell me those weak spots that the list has and correct them.

As for "Out Of Time", I will keep the song but also I will add "Beetlebum", I think it is a major omission I made in the list, thanks for letting me notice.

No Hüsker Dü songs on this list = :ugh:

Hüsker Dü is a band that I think would do better on the albums list, I have all their albums and I consider 5 of theirs albums for the top 100.
As long as the songs I do not find a particular song of them to be added in the list.
I was considering "Makes No Sense At All" and "Do not Want To Know If You Are Lonely" for the list but as I was unsure about it I decided not to add the songs.

I would definitely add "Makes No Sense At All." It was one of their most popular tunes and certainly their most acclaimed.

Definitely agree on "Makes No Sense At All." The blueprint for everything that the Foo Fighters ever did, for example, is right there.

Rather than include "She Drives Me Crazy", which was much more of a pop record, I'd go with something from the English Beat, probably "Mirror In The Bathroom".

Not sure I see anything alternative about "All I Wanna Do".

Something by XTC? "Dear God", "Generals & Majors"?

I'm sure I'll think of other things that belong, but overall I think it's a good list.

Edder's list isn't the official list, its just a list Avery and I are apparently constructing the real one out of.

XTC certainly belong on here. "Dear God" is definitely the one song of theirs that should be here. I think "Senses Working Overtime" is a better candidate if we should have a second XTC song instead of "Generals and Majors"

"All I Wanna Do" is not an alternative song.

125. Last Goodbye - Jeff Buckley

Everything below 80 is new except I replaced "Champagne Supernova" with "Live Forever" and I replaced "Cherub Rock" with "Today", both of with are far more influential, acclaimed and popular than what they replaced. I also replaced "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" by Arctic Monkeys with "Tempted" by Squeeze, and it and "Fools Gold" by The Stone Roses are the only songs that have been completely dropped from Skullkid's list.

I could use quite a bit of help with this list. Aside from shearing the songs by artists now on the Influences list, I didn't do much in terms of moving stuff up or down, and quite a few songs look too low or too high.

Why do you have "Celebrated Summer" instead of "Makes No Sense at All"? The latter is greater.

influence. "Celebrated Summer" is listed by several artists in the lo-fi subgenre as a key influence on their sound. To be honest with you, both songs seemed to have about the same amount of popularity, with "Sense" only having a slight edge due to airplay on 120 Minutes.

If I ever expand the list to 200, "Makes No Sense At All" (and maybe "Could You Be the One?" as well) will definitely make it.

Hmm, I remember making a list exactly like this a few years ago and everyone said it sucked.

Piper, why is "Tonight, Tonight" highest ranked Pumpkins song? Maybe I am missing something, could you explain that to me?

I actually have a new revision coming up in the summer. The changes include "1979" switching with "Tonight, Tonight" as the highest rated Pumpkins song.

These are songs i'm adding in to this revision:
Somebody That I Used to Know - Gotye and Kimbra (#1 hit, massive acclaim, popularity, possible influence)
Tighten Up - The Black Keys (breakthrough hit for one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the 2010's)
Madness - Muse (longest run at #1 of any song in the history of the Billboard Alternative chart)
among others
Little Lion Man - Mumford & Sons (which brought the "indie folk" subgenre into mainstream conciousness, helping it become one of the most popular genres of alternative music today)
among others

Here's what's in danger of being dropped for those songs:
180. Shot by Both Sides - Magazine
190. Hoppípolla - Sigur Ros
191. That's When I Reach for My Revolver - Mission of Burma
192. U-Mass - Pixies
197. She's In Parties - Bauhaus
200. Starlight - Muse
