Not yet, but I will. I'm really busy right now though, so it might be a while.

Meaning they aren't cartoon villains. The cartoon villainous portrayal of the Nazis in Schindler's List (and also relatedly in Saving Private Ryan) is one of the things that makes it nauseatingly maudlin and the most overrated great film of all time.

An overstatement, but I agree that it is overrated. There are more overrated greats than that one. Gone With the Wind comes to mind...

In no way is The Pianist a better film, though.

The Pianist imo is a much more personal, less manipulative, and more aesthetically beautiful movie in terms of pacing, narrative and cinematography. when he sits down at that piano, the next few minutes have more emotional weight for me than all of Schindler's List.

He's not the only person here who who complains about that.

I came down hard on DDD over this a while back. I pretty much straight up called everyone who made that criticism a Nazi sympathizer, and wouldn't let it go for quite some time.

its not about having sympathy for anyone. its about not painting anyone with broad strokes. all people have motives. doesn't make them right (relative to our own personal moral systems), and it doesn't mean we have to agree with them. but painting anybody in a real world situation as if they are a cartoon is ridiculously manipulative.

Still, George is soft for Nazis. Monga, please attack him on a personal level.

Here's something else about the real world you should know.

Some people deserve to be depicted that way.

Anyone who watches a movie about the fucking Holocaust and is seriously bugged about the fact that they didn't throw in some nicer Nazis can get fucked. Plain and simple.

why does everyone continues to have a hardon for demonizing nazis? germany is an amazing and unique nation for the way it showed remorse and apology after the war. we should never forget what happened, but it's important to move on and get over it. continuing to feitishize and demonize them is moronic and only prolongs everyone's misery.

how about someone with real balls takes on the ottoman genocides of the early 20th century? millions of people perished, the turkish government continues to deny any wrongdoing to this day, and in fact claims that they're the victims. that is the very definition of "absurdity".
or relevant genocides that are going on today in africa and southeast asia?
