If it wasn't for the two Gilmourgasms, I doubt I'd like Dogs particularly either.

Dogs is easily one of my favorite Floyd songs, it probably helps that it's their proggiest song.

Even though I'm not at all a fan of Animals, I do love the album sleeve-- even by Floyd's high standards, its an amazing picture.

... are bad?

I like a lot of the stuff on Dark Side. Money and Time have pretty all right lyrics, I guess. They certainly don't distract from the otherwise amazing experience of the music. But Animals is just plain bad. Be a little more heavy-handed, Waters! I don't fucking get it yet!

One of These Days has great lyrics.

Sorry, I'm not trying to troll. I find Waters up there with Lennon in terms of vastly overrated (though still kind of decent at times) rock lyricists. What do you love about the lyrics to Dogs?

What's not to love about them?
It's reflective, emotional and somewhat narrative. So many bases are covered in the lyrics, whether it's real life hardship ("gotta sleep on your toes...when you're on the street"), scathing bitterness ("just another sad old man...all alone and dying of cancer") or bleak hopelessness ("dragged down by the stone").

I realize this is all subjective, but I simply love Waters' lyrics in general.
You may not care too much, but Dogs is like #2 on DDD's lyric performance list.

I simply cannot care about lyrics unless they are adding to the music, and I dont need to concentrate on them to find out what's being said. hence, my favorite lyrical performance is Waterloo Sunset. It's simple, easily understood, yet profound and powerful. I love the wordplay on Desolation Row, but that's about it. As lyrics itself, it's pretty meh, but the wordplay and rhyming is so good that it makes the song wonderful and as Ive mentioned, it could have gone on forever and i wouldnt have been bored with it.
