Speaking of that, Nes, I have a general question:

How would you guys describe Tom Warrior's vocals? Would you consider them "growling"?
Personally I call it grunting or barking.
I know it may seem stupid but I actually love Tom's vocal style, while hating the style of most death metal vocalists I've heard.

Do you think that's stupid or is there a legitimate difference?
Just curious.

They're not really death growls, so it's not that strange.

Yeah they're similar, but for some reason I can listen to Tom's incoherent barking all day...

Constant growling, on the other hand, ugh.... :ugh:

You need to listen to less monotonic harsh vocalists then.

I don't like the majority of death and black vocals. If they had better voices, they wouldn't "sing" that way.

Sometimes it fits with the aggression of the music, but I still don't enjoy most of it.

Have you heard Mercyful Fate?

NO! I never heard King Diamond either. In fact, I have never even heard Metal.

That's not even remotely true.

"why do rappers rap?" "they can't sing"

If those mafuggers had voices with range like Halford or Gillan, they sing clean vocals. Anyone who disagrees is brain-dead.

I think you just need to say "voices like Halford or Gillan". Can't exactly picture them being good rappers.

Gillan and Halford sing clean because they can't perform classical piano concertos.
Come on, people do what pleases them in the style that fits the music.
If somebody listens to black metal 95% of their day I wouldn't blame them for preferring to be a better shrieker than melodic vocalist based on where their interests are at.

People also do what they are capable of. For example, not every woman out there has a voice like Aretha. Claiming that they perfer to sing that way is a major league cop-out.

I totally agree on Angel Rat, Badmotorfinger and The Black Album.

Anyway...
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales/Emperor's Return (4 and-a-half stars).
This is damn near as good as To Mega Therion.

I know, I know, I'm obssessed with these guys. I can't help it.

On the subject of Celtic Frost...

Into The Pandemonium, an avant-garde masterpiece or a bunch of dumb ideas that ruined the band before Cold Lake?
