I'd think that Here's Little Richard could be relatively high on this list.

For Jon Lord, there's no way that Machine Head is a greater keyboard album than the 69 self-titled album.
I love Lazy to death, that intro is one of the most phenomenal organ solos ever. But as a whole, April is a far more artistic and developed piece of playing.
Then you have Chasing Shadows, some killer harpsichord on Blind, The Painter, Bird Has Flown....overally there's much better keyboards than in Machine Head.

Except Machine Head was when Jon fully developed his signature style, which was a Hammond organ blasted with tons of distortion through Marshall speakers, and with it one of the first realizations of really fast neoclassical keyboard playing.

It also happens to be much more influential and is one of the few albums by anyone where every single track is amazing on its own merits.

You think every track is amazing from a KEYBOARD perspective?

Granted, you have Lazy and Highway Star, but the others aren't exactly mind-blowing, imo.

Hell, I think even In Rock is more impressive.

I had never listened to Faces before but I loved the keyboard/piano in "A Nod Is As Good As A Wink...". Don't know much about keyboard playing ... but it sounds awesome.

I will dig deeper into their discography and the Small Faces' discography, too.

I'm saying in terms of overall influence it's the first album where Jon's style developed into what he's best known for.

I'm not sold on that. He was doing some crazy shit on "In Rock". The only thing Machine Head has is the distortion on Lazy, which is admittedly awesome in every sense of the word. But take a listen to the killer backward organ on Hard Lovin' Man, or the crazy soloing in Flight Of The Rat.

It's also the distortion on Highway Star. It was one of the first neoclassical/shred keyboard solos with tons of distortion and Bach-inspired stylings.

Speaking of which, Fireball deserves a spot somewhere on here also.

Yah Jon was pretty much awesome on every album. Hard to decide.

Also, speaking as THE resident spokesman for The Doors on this site, I think Strange Days should be Ray's highest.
One of the very first uses of the moog synthesizer (title track), great harpsichord on Love Me Two Times, weird effects on Unhappy Girl, the classic riffs to When The Music's Over and Moonlight Drive, awesome piano on My Eyes Have Seen You....this album is not just Ray's crowning achievement, but the whole band's.

Hmmm... possible. Ray should have several on there for sure... I still lean more towards the debut, though.
