Another way to look, would to be consider the number of views on Youtube for the must popular version of these songs, this would provide another dimension for lasting popularity as it relates to this point in time with Youtube only starting in 2005 in the US and 2007 in most other locations around the world .... ...another tool for lasting popularity also could be gauged by looking at the 50 Countries itunes lists Top 100 rock charts for videos, albums and songs. For example there would be very few countries that would not have a tune or album or video tied to the 70`s material of Zeppelin, Floyd, Purple, Queen, the Eagles and one or two others .... There's definitely something fishy going on. I remember "Stairway to Heaven" having a little over 7 million views just one year ago. I've come across some Zeppelin freaks in my time online who I wouldn't doubt are using various methods to inflate their Youtube views.
