Such an ordinary poll. Went with Iron Maiden.

Initially was going to pick Black Sabbath. You have one of their top five tracks and even though Children of the Grave is one of their weaker classic tracks. Had War Pigs been the other pairing I would have taken Sabbath likely. But man does the Victim of Changes/Beyond the Realms of Death combo make it pretty much impossible to pick anyone other than Priest. How did you select the combos?

Anyway order:

Amazing
1. Priest
2. Black Sabbath (really for the title track alone)
3. Sabbath with Dio (good picks)
4. Metallica

Great
5. Iron Maiden (although I find the Trooper a bit overrated)
6. Alice in Chains
7. System of a Down
8. Megadeth (Holy Wars is awesome but Wake Up the Dead is kind of meh)

Good
9. Motorhead
10. Rage Against the Machine
11. Pantera (a couple of their only good songs)

Mediocre
12. Soundgarden

Barf
13. Tool
14. Slayer

Metallica but I actually almost went Tool. If it had been Schism and not The Grudge I would have.

Black Sabbath closely followed by System of a Down. Some odd choices here.

System is the only band here that i really love. i used to be really big on AiC, but i'm burnt out on them. i enjoy Sabbath and Metallica every once in a while.

and i'll say it again, outside of Matt Cameron, Soundgarden is really boring to me. some of the most dull vocal melodies and guitar riffs ever written imo. Black Hole Sun may as well be a Snow Patrol song with electric guitar, that's how unexciting it is.

Weird. They're the only band here I really dislike.

Disagree with you on Children of the Grave. It's so menacing. For a weaker classic track, look no further than Iron Man.

Couldn't agree more.

With most of them, I tried to go with songs that were classics, yet not totally huge and overplayed to death.
Hence no Paranoid for Sabbath, no One for Metallica, no Run To The Hills for Maiden, etc.

I'm guessing you haven't heard much besides the "big" songs. How anyone could accuse THIS of having "dull vocal melodies and riffs" is beyond me...

i've heard everything they've ever done actually, including various sideprojects. my entire freshman year of high school was devoted to Pearl Jam, AiC, Nirvana and Soundgarden. but then i stopped listening to them, and when i finally got back around to them i was amazed by how bored i was with Soundgarden and can't listen to them anymore. just my experience.

Only Megadeth here has both my favorite songs by them, and Wake up Dead is quite possibly my favorite metal song. almost all of them are dangerously close to one another, beside Maiden, Pantera and Metallica. I really love all the others.
