I just updated the "Bruce's Choice" record for each year. They are located at the bottom of each year's Top 100 Songs list.

Here are the new ones with Youtube links where applicable:

1950 - Hey--Spo-De-O-Dee - Wild Bill Moore

1951 - She's Dynamite - Tampa Red

1952 - Oh, Oh, Oh, Baby - Checkers

1953 - Jungle Juice - Sticks McGhee

Dio added an n to the end of his name and was a pretty good Dion immitator in those days.

My favorite from Nix is this one from '52.

By the way, I have a copy of the original 78 hanging on my wall, but I prefer the flip side. which was the A side. The side you like is "Just Can't Stay," not "Just Can't Say."

Sabre 104 - Willie Nix - All By Yourself / Just Can't Stay - 1953

The band consisted of Nix on drums, Eddie Taylor on guitar, Sunnyland Slim on piano, and Snooky Pryor on harmonica.

Excellent, I was wondering that every so often and hadn`t given it much thought for awhile .... I had posted a copy of a photo of the record on ddd some time back .. if you search the Internet there is reference after reference of Just Can`t Say by Willie Nix and the same with Just Can`t Stay by Willie Nix ..... other than a single of interest to some, does it have greater collector value ... Take care

Both the 45 and the 78 are in the price guide for about $750.

Just confirmed that "Hanky Panky" by the Shondells is actually from 1964, not 1963. I sent Lew the changes. "Catch A Wave" by the Beach Boys was added to the 1963 list at #120, and "People Say" was dropped from the 1964 list.

Bruce, I noticed you didn't include "Apache" on the 1960 list and wanted to make sure it's not an oversight. The original British version by The Shadows was #1 on the UK Singles Chart for five weeks. It was The Shadows' first hit single without Cliff Richard and has a lot of lasting acclaim (don't think you consider that though). In the US Jørgen Ingmann's cover version (also released in 1960 according to RYM) made #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 on the Billboard R&B chart. The song became an instrumental rock standard in the US and UK, was covered numerous times and a cover version by The Incredible Bongo Band even became somewhat influential on hip-hop, having been sampled in a number of songs.
