role models is one of the best comedies of the past 12 years. i watched it again the other day, and it's fucking brilliant at being both hilarious and touching.

I would agree that Role Models is hilarious, but it can only be considered touching if you mean within the context of comedies.

Well, in a slight defense of the film on this account, Tom Cruise is not the last samurai, even according to the movie. There were samurai rebellions (the Satsuma Rebellion being the most prominent) and there were western white guys who were hired as military advisers to a reforming Japan. There were also western white guys who became enamered with Japanese society and began living traditional Japanese lives. There are many, many reasons to complain about the historical accuracy of the film. That's just not the best one.

I always assumed that "last samurai" referred to the whole of the rebel army.
