Top 5 Nations (Population wise) of the World and how many metal bands per country (according to M-A):
1. China - 159
2. India - 112
3. United States - 17,257
4. Indonesia - 577
5. Brazil - 3,847

A couple notes...
1. The low numbers from other countries are probably from M-A being a primarily English speaking site.
2. Is music sung in English usually more popular than other languages? I want to say yes, but I don't know.
3. English is the most well-known language in the world so it makes sense that metal sung in English would be more popular. Just out of curiosity I looked up the status for the UK and they have 3,238 bands listed on M-A. Germany actually has more listed with 8,156, but Germany is pretty metal so...

The low number in China is due to their totalitarian government. The low numbers for India and Indonesia is due to the fact that so many of their people are religious fanatics. You'd have to have balls of titanium to form a pop band in one of those nations. From a metal band and you could be facing prison time or a lynch mob.

And when it comes to the UK and Germany, I'd say the relevant number is kick@ss bands.

That argument doesn't really work for India.

Any opinions on Ghost? I saw them open for Opeth and Mastodon and they were awesome. Played for a full hour (show ended up being 5 altogether) and the audience went apeshit.

Am I the only person who thinks Bomber is overrated? Aside from the title track and Dead Men Tell No Tales, that album is boring as hell to me.

and I'm sorry, while I love Moving Pictures, no way in hell is it more metal than Rocks, Van Halen 1, Back In Black, or Highway To Hell, even Fair Warning for that matter.

Edit: I also love Grace Under Pressure and think it's highly underrated, but having that album there without any albums by Van Halen or AC/DC shoots down any credibility this list has. That album has more in common with the Police than it does Deep Purple.

Edit 2: Awakening of the Gods, while an excellent, excellent song, is not the closer to Pleasure To Kill. It's Under The Guillotine. Flag of Hate, Take Their Lives, and AOTG are part of the Flag of Hate EP which came out a year before Pleasure to Kill :!:. After awhile the EP just started getting packaged with Pleasure To Kill.:geek:

Can we do a collective list for favorite '80s metal albums? Would anyone be interested?

We did 90s, but 80s didn't happen (mostly because it'd be mad predictable.)
