Fallout is pretty old - released merely three years after FFVI.

Whatever, you clearly define good writing as "how little does it have to do with japanese story archtypes", because simply western ones is way better.

Everything uses archtypes, just about video game story is cliche, that doesn't make them bad though, because the best RPGs execute them well. Which I think VI totally does and it's why it's considered one of the best.

I've heard good things about Fallout, I've been wanting to check it out, now I'm weary of it because of you.

Anyway, could we get a tier in here? Final Fantasy VII orange, VIII and IX red. None of the rest need bolding imo.

False. I define good writing by the wit, storytelling, characters... all tangible things. Furthermore, western RPG's tend to have far more detailed backstories with vastly more exposition and lore. That being said, perhaps the translation of the FF games from Japanese has a detrimental impact upon the percieved quality of the writing. It wouldn't surprise me.

I'm not saying the Final Fantasy games are poorly written exactly, they are just extremely cliched and simplistic. However, the execution tends to be very solid.

Nobody is completely unbiased - but I'm pretty close.

All honesty, tiers isn't a bad idea. Watcha think, boo? VI and VII for the orange, IV, XII, Tactics and maybe TA2 for red, I, V, TA, and maybe X and another for bold.

Hm, FF should be red, not sure what I was thinking. X shouldn't though. XII should.
Again, the third tier should be X, V, both Advance...possibly XI, but I'm not feeling it. Don't know enough about II and III to comment.

FFX has more acclaim than FFXII; and it outsold it. So...im not sure how it could be higher than X.

VI and VII are shoe ins for orange. The original, IV and X should be red, maybe XII too. III, V, VII and IX should be regular bold.

As for FFTactics, if we're adding that to the tier list then just to be fair wouldn't we have to include ALL the FF spinoffs? Because that would be pretty time consuming.

But yeah I've proposed the idea of tier lists to Piper, and making a section exclusively for franchise specific threads.

More popularity, yes definately. More acclaim? That's hilarious.
