Well it's still spring, but it was about 90 deg (32 C) yesterday so it totally felt like summer. In this thread we'll recommend and discuss awesome summer tunes -- the ones that are perfect for blasting at the beach, or for a morning drive with the windows down, or for listening to in short shorts.

In the spirit of recent discussions about stagnation, I challenge you to only recommend stuff you've discovered in the last 18 months or so -- yeah, we all know that "Surfin' USA" is a fun summertime song. Obviously this isn't a hard rule...just try to add some fresh blood instead of circulating the same old stuff. I'm predicting that batman will win this thread, so don't let me down buddy.

To be honest when it comes time for summer songs I usually go for nostalgia so most songs I listen to are at least ten years old. I guess I'm just a faggot like that.

For recent discoveries, "You're In Love With The Sun" by the Very Most and "Anna Lee (Sweetheart Of The Sun)" by The Bangles (from the album they released last year).

And it's not a recent discovery for me, but a very obscure track: "I Love The Summer Days" by Marbles, a side project of Robert Schneider of Apples In Stereo. Hard to find--I can't even find it online--but a great record.

All fun, upbeat power pop stuff that sounds like a nice summer day to me, as well as fitting lyrically.

this thread is my mecca

last summer my summer jamz playlist was almost exclusively 90s R&B. The most played party jams of the summer, no doubt, were Bump n Grind by R Kelly, Always Be My Baby by Mariah, and Untitled by D'angelo. The summer before that I drove to summer camp for work every day with either The Very Best or Earth Wind & Fire in my system. Here's a random playlist I threw together on Grooveshark that strays from that a little:

http://grooveshark.com/playlist/Summer+Jamz/69599030

Butterfly Bones - xoxo
White Shoes & the Couples Company - Tentang Cita
Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves the Sunshine
The Blackbyrds - Summer Love
Lloyd - Lay it Down
The Staple Singers - Let's Do it Again
Isley Brothers - Who's That Lady
George Benson - Affirmation
The Very Best - Warm Heart of Africa (just had to include em anyway)
Broken Social Scene - Texico Bitches
2pac - Run Tha Streetz

After hearing "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" thanks to Rashed's noms in the song tourney, I'm just well into a disco/80's funk mood -pretty much the perfect summer music. It's reminded me of an amazing mix from Jamie XX/Oneman - the first 25 mins or so are a disco masterclass (and the rest is excellent as well) - I think I posted a few of the tracks in the past on here.

good man georgi, oneman is really someone to keep an eye out for - his mixes have been amazing lately. haven't heard

speaking of which, blawan is probably my favourite uk producer atm, up there with william bevan. he has the best drum programming ive heard in ages (sounds like you're dancing in a fucking cave) and his mixes are getting more mind bending by the minute. his latest one for the boiler room is insane.

http://boilerroom.tv/blawan-65-min-mix/

if you watch the video you'll see claire boucher (grimes) dancing like a madwoman next to him

and how good is this new track he just dropped in the mix, perfect mix of future garage and jungle

Rashed, that Blawan mix is absolutely insane! And damn, gotta love Grimes!

Guess what - I'm going to Fabric in June and it turns out Blawan is doing a set then! Gonna be sick!

O_O

time of your life incoming. blawan and fucking fabric!!! holy fuck man that sounds almost better than anything i have lined up over summer and i have radiohead, jamc, refused, liars and dead can dance. you're pretty much going to be a part of electronic music history right now, right there

edit -

you son of a bitch. i just checked the lineup for that day at fabric

ROOM ONE:
Craig Richards
Cassy
H Foundation: Hipp-e & Halo

ROOM TWO:
Marcel Dettmann
Shed (live)
Blawan

so basically room one is deep house godheads and disco, and room two is pretty much 3 of the best names in cold mechanical techno and garage. Dettman headlining!! fuck you man. this is almost worth buying a plane ticket for. question is, what room are you going to spend yr time in? i'd be torn, even though im leaning a bit toward two

Dude, I'm so excited about it. It's gonna be the perfect post exam party. As far as rooms go, you've put a seed of doubt in my head. Blawan was the guy that stuck out to me initially, so I was thinking Room 2 but now that you mention disco in Room 1, I'm really torn. I'm gonna try and sample all of them of course (there's a third room too - Terry Francis, think he's a fabric regular).
