yeah seriously, I PM'd some people, but everyone else, go PM people you think are good posters as well and have them help make this one of the most active forums on this site, since it was arguably the most dead, even more than lyricists/songwriters for a while

tommorello still posts here (as PBR Streetgang), but he said he doesn't play drums much anymore so he doesn't feel a need to post in the drum forum a lot. I guess the others have just drifted off or lost interest. I'm actually GAINING more interest now, which is weird because drums have been my favorite instrument ever since I can remember. Yet ironically, the vocalists forum is where the vast majority of my posting history lies...

So, what did you think of the link I posted? I think Bunker is a helluva drummer.

When I said Palmer is far, far more skilled than Peart I meant it. Palmer's speed with both hands and feet (ESPECIALLY hands) are far faster, and far more controlled than Peart's. Palmer might have the fastest and cleanest rolls in all of rock, and definitely up there for all genres. I"d also say Palmer has the most stamina of any rock genre he could keep crazy stuff up that's draining as crap for a very long time and still keep the same volume and not slow down. You can also hear Palmer's jazz ability and groove style come out in this song, I'd say Palmer is far more versatile than Peart as well. The funny thing is this was before ELP, when his style was still immature. As you can hear in Tank, his style is far more developed and so god damn accurate and precise, his dynamic control at those speeds is arguably among the best.

Neg, if you haven't listened to Tank, listen to it and try and tell me Peart's done anything remotely like that skill wise, or other drummers for that matter. I consider Palmer a god of skill, definitely. Tanks is probably my favorite performance of his, along with KE9 of course

Ok CRJ, fess up. What'dya think of Dharma For One, anyway?

I have ELP's first two albums, and I love Tank. But I honestly thought Decline And Fall was more impressive. I just love that 'going ape shit' type of style. And he was truly pushing single-pedal speed to it's limits...
Also, Tank is awesome but I hate how the drums are mixed so low on the solo. Kinda takes away from some of the 'punch' of it, I feel.

Now Palmer is definitely faster than Peart, but I still don't know about "far" more skilled.

I'd also like to know CRJ's thoughts on Dharma For One...

What do you want me to say? It's a great drum performance, Bunker's always been terrific, and show lots of creativity and is pretty wild. Skill wise, since he's buzz rolling the whole thing and the transitions, it's slightly less impressive just because it's far easier to buzz roll than single stroke at those speeds (like Palmer who just single strokes everything) but a fantastic performance none the less. Mad rolls cool beats. Not mind blowing to me though. Then again I know that piece cause' I love Tull. Grew up on Skating Away, parents used to sing it to me as a lullaby and eventually I just got like every Tull album. But yeah great performance

Oh, and Ariel, you asked about some post-Cream stuff from Baker?



This is just as incredible as anything he did with Cream....
He is the MASTER of beats, listen to the rhythms in this solo.
