I think We Carry On into Deep Water into Machine Gun is just such a perfect sequence. Such variety of sound and tone and emotion - more so than on a lot of entire albums - in just three song.

Listening to Deep Water right now. I love how fragile Beth Gibbons' voice sounds on this track. It really draws a contrast to the other songs where it's much more sultry - damaged and scarred, maybe, but not weak.

as good as Dummy is, Third sounds MUCH better live. Threads and Machine Gun were out of this world amazing

The first time I heard Deep Water, it came across as very innocent and peaceful. But the second time I listened to it in the context of the album (and knowing the menacing Machine Gun was about to rise out of it), it just gave it a completely different, somewhat tense and unnerving feel. That's a pretty incredible feat, to be able to change the vibe of a song to such an extent, just because of it's context
