I really love that "We Are Young" by Fun and Janelle Monae is #1 right now. Not the best thing either party has done, but it's pretty cool to see an indie-esque song make #1.

And now Gotye's 'Somebody that I Used to Know' knocks it off it's perch, making it the first time since 1988 that two alternative songs have gone back-to-back #1 on the billboard chart. Pretty cool...

oh yeah.

I mean, as a fan of Fun (and The Format for that matter), I have so many problems with "We Are Young", but I'm happy that it was #1. I really and totally love "STIUTK", though and it's one of my favorite #1 singles in a while.

I really like "Somebody That I Used to Know" too, it's a great #1.

With those two songs reaching number one and other songs like Pumped Up Kicks getting pretty close, it seems indie(ish) music is getting a lot more mainstream.

Also, three more songs on the Billboard alternative chart - "Tongue Tied" by Grouplove, "Midnight City" by M83 and "Little Talks" by Of Monsters and Men - all came pretty close to getting on the Top 40 over the last few months.

"Call Me Maybe" is the closest thing we'll ever get to a Sarah Records-type song being #1 on any chart. I'll accept it.

"Call Me Maybe" has grown on me. I used to be neutral about it, now I honestly like it.

That song was born to top the charts and everyone knows it. Absolute pop masterstroke.

Call Me Maybe earned that shit. Catchiest song to hit #1 within recent memory. And that's saying something. Anyone hating on it is jaded as fuck.

I don't think I even know the words to that song outside of the chorus
