I dont agree with your assessment of Texas Flood rv, but to each his own. especially the live version from Mocambo. I dont know about ranking it, but I most certainly like listening to it. Its one of those solos like freebird, I dont care how banal it might sound to others, I like listening to it.

How in the world did it get so high in the 1st place. I love that solo personally, but 17th greatest rock solo is quite incredible.

You all should use George's page Listology and post some good/fave guitar related lists of your own .....

Because it was edited by this guy Eric who was a massive Buckethead fanboy, that's how.

Well the Macambo version is a totally different story.
He's totally possessed on that one...it absolutely obliterates the studio version to smithereens.

obviously i was talking about the studio given the context of this thread. and yeah agreed with NC, the el mocambo version is brilliant like much of srv's live output, but there's another thread for that.

I think we should just rank the most celebrated rock guitar solos: White Room, All Along the Watchtower, Eruption, Stairway, Comfortably Numb, Maggot Brain, all that stuff. Fuck it if it's subjective.

Because it seems to me that Mr Crowley surpasses Hotel California in all four criteria. All Along the Watchtower > Stairway also needs to be considered.
