It's a great lesson package, the perfect companion to Batio's first instructional video and PG's Intense Rock series. The examples aren't always the most musical ones, and since I prefer to practice with patterns you can use in actual songs, the vid's not for me in that sense. I still heartily recommend it, but it's far from the only good vid for working on chops.

I bought the book/cd, not the vid. But from reading the first few pages and doing the exercises, I understand what you're saying. They're not very musical, but since I'm just looking to improve my chops I don't mind that too much. I'll look into those other vids.

So Frank Vignola played at my school last night. Here's a clip from the show.

It sounds great but looks like a 'Shadows/Mariachi' crossover with extra cheese

Nah, it was less than a hundred people, about three that I knew were students  But it was a great show, a man who was one of Les Paul's favorites (and cconstant collaborators) should be playing bigger arenas than this.

i saw denis azabagic - a genius of jaw-dropping caliber - with about 10 other people last spring... i kid you not. i enjoy seeing these guys up close... 100 people is plenty, there's no reason for it to be anymore, from anyone's point of view.

there are some artists who Im sure would be far more effective with a smaller group of people. When I saw the Band of Brothers, there were about 250-300 people in an auditorium, which was much much better than mindless shouting idiots that is the staple of the crowd here. not to say there werent a few there too, but it was still very very enjoyable.
