(I put Kill em All at #2 because it was the first, I also put Master of Puppets at #10 because, even though it has a lot of popularity and influence, it's not that decorated with the trappings of thrash. I think it ranks higher as a "traditional" metal album than it does a thrash album, but that's just me.)

Seasons In the Abyss is better than Hell Awaits but I love that one too. I wouldnt be that bothered with Hell Awaits staying higher though.

If not then write down Seasons In the Abyss for top 20. I realize you are trying to get the top 10 figured out though.

Master of Puppets didn't set the bar higher for thrash anymore than Reign In Blood, Darkness Descends, Pleasure To Kill, or even Peace Sells But Who's Buying, it just made more money. Yes you could argue it was a gateway to the mainstream but that alone doesn't help, especially if a lot of the ugly qualities of thrash had to be sacrificed.

I respect it enough to put it at 10. But no higher.

and FYI, Ride The Lightning is my favorite Metallica album, but I put it lower than Kill because Kill was kind of the first pure thrash album.

So you are putting it 10th because of what some fuckwad said on a metal site? I have seen that site before and read some reviews. Most of the reviews I seen were pretty stupid. There's no way in hell Master of Puppets can be ranked 10th on this list. How did it end metal? There was PLENTY of great metal albums and bands that came out after 1986. Pantera. Even today there are great metal bands. Mastodon.

Rather than call the guy names you should be listening to his points. He makes a lot of great points, plus read what I actually said. Master didn't do anything to innovate the thrash genre. It certainly didn't do anything that Ride The Lightning already did.

So influence is the biggest thing here? I didn't realize. He's still a douche though and will have a hard time convincing anyone that he is right. Now way in hell did that album kill metal or thrash metal. It's not completely dead anyway so that's a stupid statement.

I don't have a problem with Ride the Lightning being ranked higher since it deserves that ranking and is my favorite album ever.
