I swear I like Al Green more every time I listen to him.

Ironically, he's one of the two soul singers (along with Vandross) that I could never get into. Just does nothing for me.

Not to mention I think Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye did the soft falsetto thing much better.

Rip Etta James. As I've said before, At Last is one of the best albums I've heard.

Dont think there are too many songs as cool and funky as this along with awesome socially conscious lyrics. What a song, and a great album too. That flute is the shit !!

he's really back! yes yes yes! This is great. Hmm, "Devil's Pie" (I think that's the first song) is hard rock now though? Good funky rendition of "Chicken Grease," but that "Devil's Pie" version makes me think of when I saw Lauryn Hill at Rock the Bells, and she had these shredder metal guitarists and drummers, and the whole thing sounded like radio rock with Lauryn's voice barely audible in the background. I hope that's not what D'angelo's comeback tour is like, or that it's at least only confined to this rock version of "Devil's Pie."

I hope he tours in America and it's like this:

I'm also excited for the new D'Angelo. Love Batman's clip, but I don't know what to say about Awesome's vid. I guess I'll echo Batman's sentiments and say it's a step in the wrong direction.

I'm all for blurring the lines between genres, but it doesn't always turn out good. Sometimes it does:

But sometimes it ends up more like "The Crunge."

daaaaamn, I did not hear about that. sad day. just read the article about it, he shot himself? given the nature of the tv show, that's incredibly surprising. makes me wonder if it was on purpose.

good call posting the Jungle Boogie clip, that's my all-time favorite Soul Train clip.

in happier news, has anyone been following the D'angelo comeback tour blog on okayplayer? they are giving updates on a daily basis. the mp3 in this article is just, wow
