I've heard both D'Angelo's albums. I feel that while they have a similar sound to them, Voodoo is just so much more sophisticated. He seems to have matured a lot as a musician in between and his growth is really evident. Sugar's still pretty good though.

And I've heard Mama's Gun, probs neck and neck with Baduizm in my book.

Yeah Voodoo is incredible. Brown Sugar is very good, but in my opinion it doesn't transcend the 90s neo-soul movement like Voodoo does. D'angelo pretty much made all of Brown Sugar by himself, and he had some pretty legendary partners on Voodoo, such as Questlove, Badu, J Dilla, DJ Premier.
I actually feel the same way about Mama's Gun and Baduizm, although I don't think the gap between the two is as noticeable as Voodoo and Brown Sugar.

Definitely not. Voodoo is probably the best of those four and Brown Sugar my least favorite.

He does indeed! I'm surprised you only heard this today actually though I couldn't say where I heard it first. Maybe others have used it as their ring music too. I think it's popped up in a lot of places though.

Came across this in a Nico Jaar remix. Just so lovely.

Anyone (i.e Rashed) know if there's a link for this album somewhere? Sounds too good to be true.

Thanks for that, Rashed, I'll certainly give that a listen. But I was actually referring to the compilation in that allmusic clip of just Mike Kirkland.
