Hi everyone

i have been reading this forum for a while (mostly the vocalists threads ) and you seem quite competent and objective (mostly ) and i wondered if you guys could give me a technical comment on this bassist? he is considered one of the best here in italy,but i have absolutely no technical knowledge and i wanted an objective comment on him could he enter your most skilled list?

an accelerated song as a 'joke' in a competition where the artist had to sing only a 1min of their song as a recap, they sang all the song by accelerating it

oh btw i have no idea if those songs are the best one to showcase the bassist skills

...and oh shit, this dude fucking kills Michael. Not too hard to do, but still. I'm impressed. Genuinely good player, if we take things out of context, with emotions (sympathy for Michael Anthony) removed. If anything he's cut out for far more interesting music than VH allows

Uh yeah, that's what bassists do sweetheart.

My all-time faves...

1. Bruce (mainly because of his live improv)
2. Squire (technical monster, epic lines, etc.)
3. Butler (just as important to metal as Iommi's guitar sound, imo - without Geezer's sludgy spooky bass to complement it, it wouldn't have been the same)
4. McCartney (no explanation needed, he is a deity)
5. Casady (awesome sound, one of the earliest uses of 'distorted bass', I believe, great player regardless)

Just got The Yes Album (I wanted to get Fragile instead, but that one will be next).

Anyway,
CHRIS FUCKING SQUIRE! I swear, sometimes I tune out the rest of the band for a moment and just listen to his bass lines. Especially in Yours Is No Disgrace. Yeah he's that good.

Yep, he's easily the most creative rock bassist ever in my mind (I can't really think of anyone else who's on his level)

FWIW I actually prefer the Yes Album to Fragile, they're about equal in quality IMO

I think The Yes Album is more consistent, but nothing on it matches the sheer mind-blowing majesty of Heart Of The Sunrise.

Well I think at this point HOTS is pretty widely considered to be in contention for best Yes song, along with CTTE and Awaken and (among some people who I'll never understand) The Gates of Delerium

HOTS has been one of my favorite songs since I was a preteen like, fav songs from ANY band

Anyway, I fully agree on HotS bein the best Yes song. I can't explain my reaction when I first heard that.

Shit, Anderson's tear-inducing vocals impressed me nearly as much as Bill's drumming.

Indeed, it's incredibly emotionally moving. Prog as an ideal, fulfilled.
