They dont have the acclaim or the skill.

I love Stevie but he just doesnt quite stack up to these other guys, vocally.

You know way more about the technical side of singing than I do, but is Wonder really not as skilled as those guys? I'd have thought Stevie is more skilled than the whole lot besides Wilson and Hamilton.

Jackie Wilson
James Brown
Marvin Gaye
Michael Jackson
Otis Redding
Ray Charles
Sam Cooke
Smokey Robinson
Stevie Wonder

These nine - in no order above - to me, are irreplaceable ... would be the last place among the other ... Vandross/Clyde/Hamilton/Green/Richard ...

He is actually, I was referring more to Brown.
But yah Wonder is probably the second most skilled r&b vocalist.

He seems very acclaimed too. I think leaving him out was a folly.

Wonder. Brown definitely doesn't have the same merits as Stevie.

A guy many of you may not be familiar with but a terrific R&B/Doo Wop/ Soulful lead tenor was the late George Williams of The Tymes (So In Love, Wonderful Wonderful, etc). Very smooth and tasteful and well respected in his era. Check out a song called "Somewhere" by The Tymes...George...Whooo...

 you've covered a lot of ground since you likened him to Kermit the Frog.
