my new favorite is Omar Faruk Tekbilek, i will not recommend anything in particular because everything i've heard by him so far has been equally amazing

idk. I talked with him on last.fm and he just said that he wasn't interested in DDD anymore. makes me sad for this thread. it was one of my favorites when he contributed.

I plan on uploading some good Malian shit in here sometime. Nothing that some of you haven't heard before, but look out for it anyways.

i think it's entered the mainstream jazz canon by now.

i'm afraid that's a bit too cheesy for my taste, your beastliness... (-:
i'll also admit the tekbilek tracks suffer a bit from the uber smooth production in my view, but there is a certain kind of "essence" in them that overrides that for me.
raul, i'm new to him myself, so your guess would be as good as mine. glad you liked him too. by the way, have you watched "stalker" yet? see what you think of its soundtrack...

no worries George...I mentioned the cheesy part, so Im not surprised.....I get into 'cheese' mode sometimes, so its cool to hear it at those times...

I downloaded songs by Omar like a freak from wherever I could...I have about 8 songs now, and they all have this great serene quality although I see the reason for his latest album to get a harsher review than his former ones (atleast on allmusic) , because he sticks to the basics and doesnt really grow, if you know what i mean.....still he's quite fantastic.....My fave track beside Why is the 10 minute Whirling, which almost feels like I'm travelling through the Arabian deserts on a camel.....
