That Veil song was pretty good, I think I'll listen to that album at some point.

Still doesn't hold a candle to Gris.

Careful, you might like it ALOT, like I do.

I have been trying to get my hands on a competitively priced Gris CD: il etait une foret. None avail. Will keep looking.
I like what I have heard of it so far.

Found one priced at 15.99 plus 5 bucks shipping from Quebec. It's on the way. I'll give an eval. when I give it a few listens.
EDIT for eval.
Like most of this album alot. especially tracks 1,3,5.

Then I got my hands on the Israeli band Orphaned Land's Sahara, which was also quite enjoyable.

Definitely get on both Mabool and The Never Ending Way of ORWarriOR.
I haven't heard Sahara personally, though El Norra Alila's really good- but their last two albums are absolutely excellent.

Is it too late to talk about the latest Mastodon album?

No. I thought it sucked.

Well, I mean, for Mastodon. They do that whole poppy metal stuff, even plain old hard rock in places, pretty well on the album but I have no interest in it.

I was actually pretty disappointed with metal in general this year.

Hey, Marrow of the Spirit is but a year old and that was a masterpiece. There'll be more great stuff, especially in a genre that has as many forward-thinking artists and scenes as metal.

Marrow of the Spirit is probably my least favourite by Agalloch. But all their stuff is great so it being my least favourite isn't really such a bad thing I enjoyed it, just not as much as I've enjoyed their other stuff. Also, I thought The Hunter was a pretty awesome album. Primordial's new album was pretty good too.

Found out the guy from Woods of Ypres died over a week ago. RIP. Pretty good band, too.

Metal will never die. It not only survives, it thrives. We'll always have the great divide between the charts (Mastodon) and the underground (Agalloch). We had it in the 80s with thrash and glam. We had it in the 90s with extreme and nu. The pattern continues.

Yeah, Fen, Vektor, and Cormorant are the only ones that really impressed me this year. But seriously, if you haven't heard of Cormorant check out Dwellings, it's like all of the good aspects of Opeth and Agalloch rolled into one album. And seriously, you can't deny the awesomeness of this album cover: http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com/wp-cont ... 7997_n.jpg

This is pretty much exactly what I thought about it.

The Cormorant was one of my top 5 for sure, excellent album and I grabbed some merch.
The other four would be Obscura, Moonsorrow, Gernotshagen and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
The Fen's also really good.

That record is awesome. Apparently there's a lot of people giving it shit for sounding too much like the previous two releases, but so the fuck what? The previous two albums were amazing.
