I'm getting more and more into Kotzen these days, which is great given his remarkably varied output over the years.











And that's just his first five albums.

Kotzen is wonderful. I also love his singing.

What would you recommend by him?

Hard to say, really, I've only listened properly to his first three albums, but I mean to check out more of his music. The debut is a quirky shred album with a very buzzy guitar tone, but it's definitely far more interesting than albums like Tafolla's Out of the Sun or many other standard Neo-Classical shred vehicles.

Fever Dream is a more song-oriented album, it's obvious he attempted to break through to a wider audience, but that success has sadly eluded Kotzen throughout his career. It's not like he's obscure, but the music he makes is definitely more radio-friendly than that of most of his peers.

Electric Joy is an instrumental album, and his tone on this album is one that he's still sticking with. Great playing, if the tunes aren't as immediately catchy as some of his later material. It's probably my fave of the three, mostly because I just love hearing him rip it up with style. "High Wire" is a representative song.
