How on the earth is Let It Bleed greater than LZ1?

Don't know if Let It Bleed has to be higher, but musical impact would be the reason why it's higher.

I agree. Zep 1 probably wins overall popularity, but not by very much.

Or by a mammoth amount if you believe the RIAA.

The Let It Bleed certification hasn't been updated since 1989. If it were up to date, I think it would still be well below the Zep level, but we can only have a very rough idea where it would be. So yes, it's a question of how much you weigh incomplete info.

for 1969, wouldn't Willy and the Poor Boys be the better choice for CCR?

LZI has a much bigger musical impact and has garnered a greater critical acclaim. Influence is an easy win for LZI.

Well, according to acclaimedmusic.net (probably the best gauge for acclaim on the net, despite not being perfect), Let It Bleed is far more acclaimed than Led Zeppelin I. LIB is at #36, while LZI is at #108. I don't know about musical impact, but I can see Zep winning that. LZI wins influence too, but I wouldn't say it's an easy win.

LZI isn't as sterling as you're making it out to be

If we're defining musical impact as the contemporaneous appreciation of peers for the work, Let it Bleed certainly wins that.
