Greatest Progressive Rock Artists

My thoughts on this list:

Muse and The Residents need to be added. Edit: E.S. Posthumus, too.

Should The Beatles be considered Progressive Rock? I know they had several songs with prog leanings, but I wouldn't consider them to be totally progressive. Maybe we should have a sub-list of proto- or semi-progressive artists.

Despite his fronting of Genesis, I probably wouldn't consider Peter Gabriel's solo work to be very progressive. Of course, I haven't really listened to any of his work outside of his singles.

Asia seems a bit high, especially since I think they're closer to power pop than prog; then again, I haven't really listened to them outside of the singles either. I still think Styx should be above them, though.

I'd consider Muse to be alternative moreso than progressive. But if you really want, they'd be towards the Bottom 100.

The Residents DEFINITELY deserve a place on here.

Don't you mean why are they so overrated? Jk. But seriously, for this list, they are PLENTY high looking just at prog. And having them at 13 on the all time list is a ridiculous hand out already, they are top 20, but 13 IMO is a bit much. Saying they are underrated anywhere on this site is just fanboyism. And for prog, they are fine on this list. If they ursurp ELP I don't know what I'll do.

Besides Thick as a Brick, Tull is barely a prog band.

A Passion Play? Minstrel in the Gallery? This is not to say that their albums made up of shorter songs aren't significantly Proggy.

'My God' by Jethro Tull from 1970

Skip the first 2 min of sound adjusting and then it get's interesting from one of the most unique bands in history. Enjoy.

What's wrong with the intro? You gotta have build up, you can't just skip to the heavy parts.

And I love that opening acoustic guitar part.

My feed has no sound at all for app 30 sec of intro, so my problem but yeah they were great.

Also, Traffic isn't really a progressive rock band, so I don't feel it makes sense for them to be on this list. They did a lot of improvisation, but nothing resembling actual progressive rock, as much as I love them.

Not progressive. Chicago is borderline fusion, but is definitely not a progressive rock band. Neither is The Who.
