So, Nattens Madrigal or V: Halmstad?

Shining is performing in Minneapolis on Oct 22. I will be there, it is just across the river. :thumb:
I'll have a suggestion for one of the above albums after that. (Longer than 24 hrs. tho.)

With that logic you should wait until you see Ulver live before making that decision. Do Ulver even play live anymore? And do they even play their black metal stuff?

Ulver still play live shows, but not the black metal stuff. I saw them about 6 months ago, or so. Quite the enjoyable gig, but not extreme in any way.

I'm for V: Halmstad but for me it's more for diversification of the list rather than Halmstad being so much more obviously greater. When you get lower down the black and death lists the lines get more blurry.

Halmstad > Nattens (except in quality). I'd rather see Abigor's Nachthymnen or Mütiilation's Vampires of Black Imperial Blood here myself.

Yeah, that logic is a little twisted, but I am already leaning towards Shining, and a live show would possibly nail it for them.
However, I don't like what I have heard of BlackJazz....................

That's a different band.

I kind of feel like the bottom half of the list could be reworked. When I looked at it and thought nothing should be removed I was looking at the 47-50 area, but there are some albums above that that kind of look out of place.

The main reason why I think Halmstad (or if you really want, Gris' Il Etait une Foret) should be on here is because it's representation of depressive black metal. I mean, maybe it isn't the biggest black metal scene, but it's growing and Halmstad is the album that defines that subgenre.

Thanks for pointing that out.
I thought it was the same band, cause I have heard that Shining has gone through alot of sound changes over their career, experimenting with new sounds.
In that case, Shining belongs on the list more than Ulver, IMO, because Ulver is old style (fast) black metal, and I'm into DSBM more now.

The Mutiilation album is sort of depressive black metal, but I guess that the modern scene should be represented as well.

Anyone think Frost, Eld and Forgotten Legends should go way up?

Why is it Forgotten Legends and not Autumn Aurora?
Sure it's a great album and their first but I'd say the majority of people look to Autumn Aurora for Drudkh's best, and I think it's the same deal when looking at black metal as a whole.

Sure I think the Drudkh should take a jump (at least higher than Limbonic Art), and same with Frost- but if that's the case so should Bathory, seeing as it was more or less the first real black metal album.

Also as much as I love Storm of the Light's Bane and Pure Holocaust, I think Anthems could move into 9.
