And, of course, I don't completely discredit popularity; I just don't use it as a catch-all. There has to be some consideration for songs that are more definitive/important. "California Love" is Pac's most popular song, but as someone who's written about/interviewed affiliates of 2Pac and who followed dude's career from the beginning, I KNOW that that is not his greatest song in terms of impact on hip hop. Not even close. That's the double-edged sword with hip hop; a lot of the more popular songs aren't the ones that hold the most weight. They just had the most 'crossover' appeal. But God knows, we need to stop overpraising mediocre hip hop solely for its crossover appeal. We don't do it with any other genre.

That's also why "Walk This Way" isn't in the top ten; it's barely even a hip hop track and it's significance is solely based on the fact that it got white rock fans into a genre they might not have paid attention to otherwise. This is notable, but it should not automatically warrant a Top Ten placement. Again, for no other genre would our standards be so low.

THe bolded is simply an opinion. You don't deserve to be editing this list if THAT is how you go about things. That is probably Pac's most influential and best known lyric not to mention his most widely accepted song, stylistically. You can fabricate facts from opinions all you'd like but you are never going to get around the fact that Changes is the one hip hop song EVERYONE knows the hook, piano line and probably at least a few spits from. Juicy, however, has almost faded into antiquity with those under 25... Perhaps the US is a little late catching up but ill be butt-fucked if this list is based solely on US reputations.
