I agree, it was the proto Ren & Stimpy in many ways, and a few people who worked on Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs were involved with it as well.

It was a haven for many animators who were sick of working on the same generic, cookie cutter animation. Sadly it died pretty quickly due to nonstop executive meddling and some stupid controversy over a scene that apparrently depicted cocaine use.

Which absolutely in no way depicted cocaine use. Stupid watchdog assholes.

I think it was just some conversative stick in the muds overreacting because they couldn't accept that somebody like Ralph fucking Bakshi would make a kids show without sneaking in drug references. Though to be fair, such paranoia is somewhat understandable.

Because you remember what happened when Bakshi decided to make a kids movie? He made Wizards. And that movie was fucked up beyond belief.

Bakshi is probably the most insane person to ever get involved in animation. And that's why he's my hero.

Okay. I just checked the list, and I'm shocked at the utter lack of Phineas and Ferb. The show has ridiculous critical acclaim and is regularly watched by people of all demographics. It may be the densest animated show I've ever seen.

I could see it at 34 or 35 right below Futurama.

Freaking YES!!! Phineas and Ferb needs to be top 50. Ridiculous acclaim, massive popularity, as original as any cartoon out there, and arguably the best animated show on television today.

I was flipping channels and saw it for the first time yesterday. It was like the first time I saw Spongebob just because it's that awesome. I mean the one I saw had so much crap past the radar and references to The Love Boat and Titanic.

I was originally going to include Phineas and Ferb in, at least, the Top 200, but the more I think about it, it probably does deserve to be in the Top 100. I agree -- it's one of the most popular and acclaimed cartoons of its day.

It may be Top 40-worthy just because of what a witty show it is.

Just a recommended first watch: Summer Belongs To You. Probably not the most laugh-out loud funny episode (that's Hail Doofania, IMO), but it's very well-written for a cartoon and the songs are remarkable.

How does Phineas and Ferb have more influence or cultural impact?

More influence: Hard to say because it's so recent. But really, what has Futurama influenced, despite it being such an amazing show?

Cultural impact: Have you seen all the people with Perry the Platypus shirts? Not sure if that would be popularity or cultural impact, but it's significantly more popular than you'd think.


pgm, just keep checking Disney Channel. Watch an episode and realize that every episode is pretty much the same thing. It's on quite often.
