Yes, we are talking about two of the most influential basslines ever but imo AOBtD still takes it; as for complexity these are definitely two easy basslines, I really don't see anything complex on Roundabout too which is basically the main riff played over and over again.
Composition: as you sayd that could be a tie or a slight edge for Roundabout but it's a very close call.

you could for once stop being SUCH a fanboy.... its unbearable at times

I don't see anything of fanboysm on that post...there was alot of talks on the old forum about which bassline is greater and it was decided AOBtD could takes the first spot, even Lepre Khan who was the bass forum moderator at the time agreed about it.

the part of both of them being the same level of difficulty ..... was very fanboy like ....

i like both basslines equally, and definitely like queen more than yes, so i dont think i mind in the slightest ....

Me too, and I still think it wins and deserves the #1 spot. I'd like to hear Ssoyd's opinion though

What about "I Want Your Love" by Chic?

And another reaosn why Another One Bites the Dust shouldn't be #1: It excessively resembles "Good Times"

Yeah, we've said that ad nausea. It loses originality by a huge margin, heck, it loses everything but popularity, which I'd give a tie.

So what's the reason Another One should be #1?!

I Want Your Love really deserves a place in the top 50

It was decided after long discussions on the old forum, sure it wasn't cause people thinks Queen are more likeable than Yes...

Two definite top 100 basslines which I would suggest the uninitiated should check out for comparitive purposes. First, despite what some of you may remember regarding my previous comments on Bootsy Collins...his bassline on James Browns "Lickin Stick" is funk at it's best, before Bootsy became addicted to gimmickry, mutrons, overused electronics, and his desire to become an "icon" as opposed to a bassist.
Next is Francis Rocco Prestia's part on Tower Of Powers "What Is Hip"...widely considered a bass classic, defining Roccos unique fingerstyle funk technique. Even Jaco had commented on Roccos influence on himself.

Maybe it's there but I don't see it. Peter Cetera's bass line on Chicago's "I'm a Man" one of the greatest bass lines ever.

yes i'm a man is possibly my favorite bassline ever. though it may be mainly because of originality and complexity, i think it deserves a place at LEAST in the top 50.

How about 'Cavern' (by Liquid Liquid), the bassline was sampled in 'White Lines' (by Grandmaster Flash). It has tons of popularity though only cause of the sample.
