So how is that translating into a sales total, that is being advanced as a combined amount over Zeppelin totals ..... that would mean Top 10, 20, 40 weeks for singles sales match the equivalent album weeks in the 70`s for sales ... whereas singles sales drop significantly in totals after the #1 and then big drops after 2 and 3 ... singles and album weeks on the charts are not an equal equation ... I am suggesting in the 70`s ... one week`s sales in the album charts at #20 is usually significantly more than one week`s sales in the singles charts at #20 ... until you get to the last part of the decade .... Take care

That could be. Any idea what the difference was in market share between albums and singles in the 1970s? I mean # of sales, not monetary gross.

That it is, but usually collaborations do count for an artist, and anyway the J5 are just background vocalists--it's still listed as a Stevie solo single.

... there are generally two differences between singles and albums ... As an example a #1 album will stay in the charts longer generating more unit sales than the chart life span of most #1 singles .... the sales for a #1 single are generally rapid in the first week and drop significantly outside the Top 10 weeks .... whereas an album can start strong or weak but maintain strong unit sales beyond the Top 10 weeks ....

Compare the Billboard chart run for the Who`s longest charting album v/s their highest charting single ..... Tommy the album at 126 weeks peaking at # 4 .... I Can See for Miles peaking at #9 with a total of 11 weeks in the charts .... Take care

I agree with Yousha. As an international rock fan, I think you should consider what's selling in the other 85% of the world, even if it's only an estimate.

Elton has no ifluence compared to Zeppelin, so they should be #1.
