100 Greatest Metal Songs

Maybe you can create both "Hard Rock" lists, for artists like Guns n' Roses,Ac/Dc,Scorpions etc. and "Songs/Albums that influenced metal" lists for Blue Cheer,Hendrix,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple,etc.
It will solve the problem and will be interesting as hell to argue about.

Interesting to me how you left out the last sentence:

They looked through the archives of the NY Times and this article doesn't exist. Chandler just made it up out of thin air. This is their polite way of calling him a liar.

No, it won't solve the problem because there will always be those who disagree on whether a band is hard rock or "metal" and on whether a band is proto-metal or "metal".

Holy Wars should be moved up 2 spots and Crazy Train could be moved up one spot.

Really couldn't care less about Crazy Train, but yeah I think Holy Wars should be just below One.

After some thinking, I added Morbid Angel song as JRA suggested some time ago.

Some other minor changes can be seen.

This is probably the only matter on Judas Priest against their favor I will disagree with you on.

If any song needs to be moved to the top 5 it's Angel of Death.

I actually think Angel of Death is the greatest metal song of all time. For a few reasons:

1) It's lyrical subject matter is heavy and super controversial even to this day. When video game executives won't let you put the song on Guitar Hero because of lyrical content even at the insistence of fucking Lars Ulrich, you know you've got something special. Making bigwig white collar movers-and-shakers uncomfortable because of ugly truths of humanity is what heavy metal is all about.
2) Singlehandedly set a new musical standard for thrash metal (much more so than Master of Puppets)
3) Is probably the only song from the last 25 years (MOP aside, duh) which could be claimed as "the greatest" which could be taken as a serious suggestion.
4) For my money is just as influential as anything by Sabbath, Maiden, Metallica.

and this is coming from someone who is very critical of Slayer.
