^ How is Siberian Khatru greater than CttE? The latter is better known, more influential, and more technically impressive. Nothing against the former, of course.

I always got the impression that Khatru was harder because of the amount of speed required over a lot of octaves. But I could put Close to the Edge above it.

I've never directly attempted the Siberian Khatru solo, so it's difficult to compare directly. The CttE solo seems much more difficult to me, though

I remember seeing a video of Wakeman fucking up that solo at a concert. Here's one of someone else playing it though.

The link wouldn't work for me... I'd be really interested in seeing that though!

Yeah. By the way, which Close to the Edge solo are we discussing?

The big one that kicks in at the 15:01 mark and ends at 15:55. The runs he hits from 15:10 - 15:15 and at 15:48 span multiple octaves at an incredibly fast rate, as does the quick desceding scale at 15:19. The turns at 15:23 are amazing as well, the whole solo is just remarkable.

Ah. Yeah it's awesome, it's just that Khatru seems a lot harder because of the octave spans and technicality required by both hands at the same time.

CttE spans multiple octaves, but yeah, the two-handed thing is a definite advantage that Khatru has. It'd be nice to see the sheet music for both so that we could do a more direct comparison, but I've never been able to find any transcription of Khatru's solo

I just checked my downloaded copy of the sheet music for Khatru. The solo is also conspicuously missing there. Also, here's a version with Wakeman fucking up some of it (about 4:20 in)

Here's the best video I could find of the CttE solo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q28u6Kxz-0Y

After viewing it, I think you're right. They both require MASSIVE chops, but the two-handed counterpoint approach to the Siberian Khatru solo probably makes it the more technically impressive.
