One of my favorite drum performances has always been in the song Blind Faith by Dream Theater. While not out of this world complex, I find it outstanding. I would give it a solid 7 or 8.

What album is that off of? Whatever it is, I don't own it.

Ariel, I want you to check these guys out...

Not just for the drums, but the music in general. If you like heavy prog, there's no way you won't love this.

yeps, one of my favorite albums. killer all the way round, rhythm section, guitars, you name it and that album's got it. It's criminally underrated to not be considered one of the greatest albums in its aspect.

Ariel,
That was a cool link for sure! Psychedelic hard rock fronted by beautiful female dancers? Count me in!
I always loved Vanilla Fudge. Fuck I love the 60's in general. As much as I love the 50's and the 70's, the 60's were far and away the greatest decade for music. So many changes, so many barriers being broken...

Yousha,
How the hell did YOU know about Captain Beyond?! I'm very surprised you know them. Very obscure but good GOD were they awesome. You have the original singer for Deep Purple, the drummer for Johnny Winter, the bass player from Iron Butterfly, and a killer guitarist who used to jam with Duane Allman. Did you know the debut CB album is dedicated to Duane?

Now, I really want CRJ's opinion on this, as he seems to be the only one who LOVES Palmer as much as me...

Very jazzy, awesome unique beats, snare work, just awesome.

As The Moon Speaks totally just FLOORED me. I definitely can see a King Crimson influence there.

Do you have their second album Sufficiently Breathless?
Damn near as good, but much more mellow and 'atmospheric'.

Hey that was good! Now THAT was a great beat, actually impressed me more than that Tool song.

While we're on grunge drummers, Dan Peters was fucking phenomenal, possibly as good as Cameron. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is the drum beat that inspired Jesus Christ Pose.

Btw Yoush, good to see you participating in this part of the forum! Hope to see you more.

Haha.

Ya I always laugh at people who say the 70s were better (DUDE THEY HAD LED ZEP)

And dude I love Palmer too! (Need to check him out more tho) Recently watched/listened to a youtube thing of his (was it the Atomic Rooster song you linked? I think so) which moved me to tears (the drumming). That says a lot...perfection

Ariel, Blind Faith is off of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. One of their stronger and more underrated songs.

The 2000's were by far the best decade for music

And So To Bed? Yeah that is some amazing fucking drum work there. I think Palmer's creativity is very underrated. Listen to the beat he's doing during the verses. Amazingly subtle and creative.

ALSO, you need to hear the solo on Decline And Fall from the same album.
Some explosive shit there!
