Now that I think of it, Dazed & Confused is a serious contender for Bonham's highest performance.
Definitely more variation, just as much originality and influence, etc.
That is definitely one of the very earliest examples of something that could be called "metal drumming".

GTBT should probably be #1 and I fail to see anything funny about that

So...any other opinions on Dazed And Confused for Bonham's highest?

still think GTBT is more iconic as a drum song.

"Dazed and Confused" contains the ultimate example of the "Bonham triplets" CRJ mentioned.

Correct, but footwork prioritizes over any one lick, especially one that's so simple. Not that dazed is a bad choice because I actually considered it too...

1.) Dazed should be Bonzo's highest, I will fight this to the death. It's much more complete, just as iconic, and if not quite as difficult, then it's damn close.
And it's legendary for those fills at the end of the guitar solo.
It's much more 'well-thought-out' as a drum performance.

2.) Since we're not worrying about influence, impact and all that crap on this list, I see no reason why Larks Tongues In Aspic - Pt. 1 couldn't be the highest for Bruford.
It is an absolutely genius performance. Imo just as impressive as Heart Of The Sunrise.

Opinions?

So I honestly think the top 10 should be something like this, in no particular order as of yet...

Strangiato
Dazed/Good Times
Ticks And Leeches
WGFA
Toad
21st Century Schizoid Man
Larks Tongues/Heart Of The Sunrise (still think Larks is more deserving)
I Can see For Miles
War Pigs
Some Slayer song maybe

*Also, I'd love to hear opinions on how high "One" should be. I know Ulrich is very polarizing, both as a person and a drummer, but you can't deny that his drumming on that track is ICONIC and legendary. I know Lars isn't a technical wizard or anything, but that isn't exactly piss-easy to play either. And even the slow part is fun to play, I love those little subtle variations he does with the main drum line.

And one more thing, I really think Schizoid Man is probably top 3. It was pretty much THE original 'long prog epic' type of drum song, and Giles really showed the possibilities that would obvously be explored even further by guys like Bruford and Peart.
But Giles pretty much started that whole style/concept of playing, the long epic style in Shizoid Man, the bombast on Court Of The Crimson King, etc...
Giles is so fucking underappreciated in general.

Giles is a genius. That's a damn near unreproachable top 10 you're proposing Neg, props, tho I'd personally bump I Can See For Miles for A Day In the Life.

"One" is very important in drumming history indeed. Lars is absurdly underrated too btw

I've always loved Ulrich's drumming. Everyone's always whining about his personality or his repetitive drumming, but it's so explosive and energetic. I've often considered him, in a sense, to be the 'Keith Moon' of metal drumming.

Battery and Blackened....two of the wickedest drum songs ever for sure...
