Well as much as I know that Bruford beats him, it was still pretty cool to see him at the top spot.
So anyway I'm guessing Portnoy will be in the 25-30 region?
I was gonna ask where you guys think he should be. I think he deserves top 30, outside of 25, but for a while many drummers are still more influential, innovative, creative, and original. Arguably more stylistically versatile, though Portnoy does surprisingly well there believe it or not. Do a Phil Colin's breakdown:
Influence: Colin's I'd say
Innovation: neither do too well but if I had to it would go to Colin's. It may be a tie for doing nearly none. I don't know what Colin's innovated. Some equipment maybe
Originality: Colin's was more original than Portnoy
Creativity: I'd say Colin's pretty fairly, his drumlines are damn creative and very musical. Selling England by the Pound has some of the finest drumming I've heard.
Skill: Portnoy, but not by as large as you may think. A good amount though.
Stylistic Versatility: Portnoy does well here, but gotta go Colin's, I'm sure you guys know exactly why.
I however was for moving Colin's up to probably top 30, but there's an example, I don't see Portnoy beating Colin's in anything but Skill really.
