Uh, yeah that was sick. His separation from from all four limbs is incredible.

Top 20 doesn't sound like a stretch to me.

I don't think it is, when he does stuff like play superstition, wishing well, and other stuff, even more than just plain independence, the ability to separate and play both Rhythm and melody takes such mental discipline it's unbelievable how he does it.

'80s Earthworks-era Bruford (sorry for being a fanboy)

nope, and he shouldn't be if we're doing this right. He's really skilled but not top 100. If you think it's his double bass that's impressive you might want to check out Derek Roddy. All Lombardo's other stuff is good but not enough to get him onto this list.

I mean this is just dumb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHhSubN1 ... re=related

why is Gavin so damn sick? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKCIUpW3q9s
He's probably the drummer I'd die to sound like the most

Wow.
I gotta say, death metal is SO much better when there's no vocals, and just drums....
Roddy is mind-blowing. But is he as creative and versatile as Dave? Not saying he couldn't be, but who knows...

That was the first thing I'd heard from Gavin. I can clearly see now why you guys praise him so much. That TECHNIQUE. Absolutely phenomenal.

Also CRJ, while we're on extreme metal drumming, I'd like to know what you think of this guy (Reed St. Mark)

^Not quite as sick as Roddy, but still....

Oh my god that was the FIRST Gavin you've heard? The guy is truly ahead of nearly every other drummer currently in the field IMO (of developing drummers on the scene, and technique) and is among Bruford's favorites. His technique is absolutely frightening. Check these poly's and jazz hands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwWoOMALJrQ
this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gWTTrwx ... re=related

will check out that vid you posted, haven't yet.

And Lombardo is far more tasteful and creative than Roddy.

Those vids were awesome, but like Yousha I also prefer that first one you posted. It was just sick.

Lombardo gets some fantastic grooves in here...

I like his rendition of 'So What' the best. Then again, I just love jazz.

Did anyone listen to these?

The pedals here sound like fuckin' machine guns, I detect a big Lombardo influence:

And speaking of Lombardo:

Ridiculous!

This has got to be Lombardo's best performance, after Bug Juice.

sick stuff neg, sick stuff.

It's nice to see that drummer has groove and can do more than just metal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1684hL01zc
I think it's funny as shit that Pridgen just hops on and is like 'let me try that hammer'. Goes to show, there are different style for everyone and each takes their own mastery. People are right, Bruford probably can't do what Roddy does and vice versa.

Awesome link, I loved that. It is always refreshing to hear any kind of musician step out of their comfort zone once in a while.

And now...THIS guy is absolutely mind-blowing.
If he isn't on this list already, I think he could be.

He's like Lombardo on speed...
