In the running for best rock unaccompanied bass solo I've heard. (If anyone's interested, other contenders include Overjoyed by Wooten, Amazing Grace by Wooten, DiGiorgio's solo in "Cosmic Sea", and probably some others I'm not thinking of right now. Ehh the first part of Stu Hamm's live "Bass Solo" off the G3 dvd too.) I'd probably say it's the best along with DiGiorgio's solo actually.

I'm very familiar with it, being a huge Wishbone Ash fan for years now (I own this album...though I lost it  ...and Argus which I also lost, need to re-buy both). I've been pushing Turner in the main thread for a while now! Bass genius imo, top 10 ever in creativity in rock easily (and there are a lot of contenders)

There's actually two bass solos in there, which one are you referring to?
Both are sensational though, I think Stu and Ssoyd would love this shit, if they haven't heard it already.

Yeah Wishbone are one of those criminally overlooked rock bands for sure...

Another awesome performance by the fantastic Martin Turner!

I've been trying to find the tabs to this for ages, as it's one of my favorite bass performances/bass lines.
We definitely need him on this list

That's a great bass line for sure! I haven't heard much of the post-Turner stuff, but have heard great things about it.

And then, of course, there's this:

I consider WA the best rock band in history not to get huge. And Argus era WA to be on the level of any other great contemporary band of their era, Floyd, Zep, etc

Sometime World is a tier 1 rock song in quality imo

I think I'm thinking of the opening solo Neg

Keith you might want to try learning it by ear!

Agreed on all counts.

What's your favorite Ash tune?

I honestly couldn't say...

I saw them open for Opeth and Mastodon. Easily one of the best opening sets I've ever seen.

Whoever their bassist is is incredible and he did a bit of soloing. (Although the guy next to me swore he saw Åkerfeldt's face through the side of one of the guitarist's hoods...)

Also Happy 1000th post to me!

I thought for sure that album was from the late 80's/early 90's when I first listened to it. I was blown away to find out it was from 2010!

Their singer is actually pretty damn good too. Nice doomy riffs, great drumming, everything.
I REALLY hope these guys stick around and make more albums in the future.

You tell me; I didn't make this list. It's a sick ass performance tho and deserves a high spot either way, though not as high as it is. I think Elephant Talk is like a top 20 or 25 lock at any rate.

Neg that Ghost song was sick. Very much a Voivod homage sound wise, I like that. Good bass playing; better song.

Happy 1000th post beaver!

Yeah Ghost is awesome. Too bad no one kows who they are.

Except again, there's some speculation that Mikael Åkerfeldt is one of the guitarists. When I saw them open for Opeth and Mastodon the guy next to me swore he saw Åkerfeldt's face through the side of the hood.
