Yeah, Billie Jean is a good line but the bass has very little to do with people liking that record as far as I can tell.

People who don't notice the bassline are on crack.

People listen to him for a lot of reasons.

The most iconic part of Billie Jean is that drum and bass intro.

And since Off The Wall is one of the greatest bass albums ever made, fuck no people don't ignore the bass.

The bassline isn't the center of attention in the song like Another One Bites the Dust, the song I had been comparing to Billie Jean.

yeah it is , its a common bassline used in latin jazz ,ray was the first to use in a rock setting and the doors admitted lifting it for break on through definately should be on the list.

The bass player here is Edgar Willis.

this deserves a spot either on this list or greatest bass performances , this micheal jackson ,although not as well known as the other mj songs was on an album more popular than anything any prog rock band put out, its complex yet funky, its played by louis johnson.

I feel bad for Colin Greenwood, he's a pretty underrated bassist, and it's gotta suck when you're the bassist in a band and their most iconic bassline isn't even your work.

you kidding me ? you know how many beatboxers do that bassline in their routines ? me and my friends were just discussing that day how iconic that bassline is. billie jeans bassline and drum intro is definitely what stands out the most in that song, agreed with boobs here

Is "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo too poppy for this list? It's an awesome bassline. Ditto for Rio by Duran Duran.

All four of those you guys have mentioned (last three posts) are fantastic. Jeez

And my god is that Kajagoogoo guy amazing. I'm pretty sure he's gonna make the 100 greatest bassists list at this point, thanks for the links and making it easy for me to check him out beaver.

Taylor impressed me a heck of a lot in that performance too, but my GOD is that song cheesy haha...

Neg that was fantastic, what's the dude's name?
