Also, heard some Mike Watt on my Pandora yesterday and MY GOD he's creative. Fuckin' wow.

I'm updating the list right now to the 30s spots I described two posts ago. Incidentally, it seems to me we're running out of really solid list contenders around the 41-50 stretch (eek!). Let's see...

And wow, the top 40 is really really good now. Hell yeah.

Here's the current 41-60:

41. Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs)
42. Will Lee (session man)
43. Nathan East (Eric Clapton, session man)
44. Verdine White (Earth, Wind & Fire)
45. David Hungate (Toto, session man)
46. Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band)
47. Freddie Washington (session man)
48. Nathan Watts (session man)
49. Louis Satterfield (Earth Wind & Fire, session man)
50. Andy West (Dixie Dregs)
51. Willie Weeks (session man)
52. John Myung (Dream Theater)
53. Mike Gordon (Phish)
54. Bernard Edwards (Chic)
55. Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne)
56. Andy Fraser (Free)
57. Trey Gunn (King Crimson)
58. Dave Schools (Widespread Panic)
59. Berry Oakley (Allman Brothers Band)
60. Jerry Jemmott (session man)

Who stays in 41-50? Who goes?

How about 41-50 has some of the following dudes:

John Myung
Bernard Edwards
Mike Gordon
Willie Weeks
David Hungate
Verdine White
Will Lee

That is VERY tentative but I think those guys are at least contenders.

Possible 41-50 contenders from the rest of the list (according to yours truly):

Roger Glover
Matt Freeman
Ronnie Baker
Juan Alderete

Am I missing anyone?

And Lee Dorman!
Whatever he lacks in influence he more than makes up for with creativity and skill. Versatility is notable as well.

Both are excellent and will be added later, but I said 'from the rest of the list'. I.e., what other names currently on the list might be contenders for the #41-50 spots

Beggs.

I'm seriously not kidding. He was one of the best pop bass players in the 80s and one of the first to start picking up Stick as a second instrument.

Wanna hear some REAL Funkmastered bass playing. Bass legend Paul Jackson with Herbie Hancock. Also featured...West Coast Motown ace Wah Wah Watson and vastly underrated Ray Parker Jr on guitars...

Beggs is really something and he'll get a good spot but I'm talking people who are already on the list on page one lol.

EDIT: The whole band is genuinely incredible. Who's on drums?

41. Bernard Edwards
42. Matt Freeman
43. John Myung
44. Ronnie Baker
45. Mike Gordon
46. Will Lee
47. Roger Glover
48. Verdine White
49. Willie Weeks
50. David Hungate

Paul Jackson (not to be confused with guitar wizzard Paul Jackson Jr) is a legendary jazz, jazz fusion, Jazz funk, and funk player. The guitars are great on this track. Not sure who the drummer is, but Herbie mentions him during the intros.
