Before I knew what Metal Gear was, I always thought "Solid Snake" was just some dirty term. Like it was a synonym for "Hard Member."

I think Sons Of Liberty should be double-bolded instead of Snake Eater. It was much more well-received at its time and sold more copies. I'd also point it out as the last game in the series whose script was taken seriously outside of the MGS fanboys.

What's there to take seriously in MGS2's plot?

It is true that MGS2 was greeted with more fanfare and slightly more positive press reviews upon the time of its release, but in retrospect gamers nowadays tend to favor Snake Eater over Sons of Liberty. Take this poll for example: http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/poll--what-is-the-greatest-met/1009295.

Red-MGS3, MGSgameboy color, MG

What? Its one of the most acclaimed games of all time, and one of the best selling games on PS3 and in the series. 40/40 (famitsu), 10 from ign, gamespot, gameinformer, and ign. Biggest selling ps3 exclusive until gran turismo, and

But is also plagued by a ridiculous story presented through way too many cutscenes, plus the lack of stealth-based gameplay in large parts of the game.

Yeah, but thats like...your opinion...man

GJ, if it was such a problem to most, then it wouldnt have received the universal acclaim that it did.

I don't see how you can argue; its close to being one of the best reviewed games of all time. One of only 5 games to receive a perfect score from ign and gamespot, then throw in perfects from game informer and famitsu and its one of only three: OOT and galaxy being the other two.

Yeah, but you know what the best reviewed game of all time is? That's Grand Theft Auto IV, and even some of the most hardcore GTA fans (that I have talked to, at least) admit that doesn't make any sense.

Press reviews have become way to lenient lately anyway, and in many cases (especially with big name sequels like GTA IV, MGS4 and also MGS2) many reviewers are too blinded by anticipation, causing them to turn a blind eye to the game's blatant shortcomings.

Oh, man. Not those "hardcore" gta fans that YOU talked to, no way?! they dont like gta4?! Man, call the presses.

Listen, part of the criteria is critical acclaim, its one of the biggest when making the tiers.

Too bad to hear your mates dont like gta4
